    Default Humboldt Happenings

New President, Dr. Tom Jackson from Black Hill State University, starts at Humboldt Friday, June 28th. He lists college Athletics as one of his passions....I like his first move:

I went and read his bio. He sounds like a good one! Maybe he can find a way to reinstate football. It can be done. WT dropped football for a year 30 years ago because of stupid, non-visionary, boneheaded management. Would it be possible at Humboldt?

And you wonder why so many distrust government. Nice slush fund for sure. They weren’t as good as Chicago State has been in keeping things under wrap.

Nice to see the the Lackey ousted as well as the former President gone. I’m sure she was well rewarded for mission complete.

Let's hope he looks into bringing back football. Reaching out to those who pledged money to try to keep football would be a great start I think to see if the interest still there. That they had 62 million surplus though, that is very disappointing for sure when they said that well less than that needed to be raised to keep the program going. Then again, they didn't count all funds given to keep the program truthfully either.

I'm afraid that the Viking burial ship has sailed and burned.

Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother.
And my sisters and my brothers
Lo, there do I see the line of my people
    Back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them
    In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever.
    Seems appropriate for those Vikings.

Still in limbo......HSU hired a similar Consulting firm in 2016 that strongly recommended to keep football and build Athletics.....

This was HSU's solution for athletics after dropping football....here's hoping it's not too late for things to change!

Humboldt State University’s Athletics and Recreational Sports departments are teaming up to offer more students a chance to participate in team sports. The two departments, which have always worked closely together, are formally combining this semester.

A major goal of the combination is to offer more opportunities for students to compete on sports teams. Research shows that student engagement in extracurricular activities can improve their overall success in school.

Organizationally, the change will allow HSU to gain some operational efficiencies, and for the Recreational Sports program to take advantage of expertise and resources within Athletics. The change should also help with the promotion of team sports opportunities and bring greater visibility to the successes of various club sports teams.

HSU’s intercollegiate athletics, club, and recreational teams provide opportunities to more than 2,500 players each year.

For more information about the programs, visit the Athletics website and the Recreational Sports website.

A new president came in the following year, got the donors lined up, and they finally convinced the Northeast 10 to let them in so they can justify bringing football back without blowing up the athletic department budget.
