Default 2018-2019 NSIC All-Sports Award FINAL STANDINGS

    http://northernsun.org/news/2019/5/1...rts-award.aspx

Fresh off the discussion in the UST thread regarding conference athletic budgets and All-Sports Award standings, the NSIC just announced the final standings. Mankato defeats Augie to win back to back years, and their sixth title overall.

My USF Cougars finish their highest ever, 3rd overall. Well done. Not too shabby for the smallest school in the conference.

Crookston has never finished anything other than last....and it's not even close to 15th. Sad.

I think someone else mentioned it, and far be it from me to defend Crookston after the NSIC Basketball tourney debacle i witnessed in the Sioux Falls Arena, but they only have 10 sports. They're not great in most of them, so that doesn't help, but it also doesn't help that Augie & MSU have almost twice as many sports to draw points from.

I still can't imagine any ground gained in the total sports award if they did have 18

Not a surprise, as they have the bigger departments.

Especially since they obviously have no real commitment to succeeding at D2

It may be that D3 conferences within a reasonable distance to them are not open to taking them. I wish UMC well, but the demographics of the area they are in probably don't lend themselves well to increasing a fan base.

Hell yeah. We are the champions of the NSIC. As far as Crookston goes, they could always renew their rivalry with Morris in the UMAC.

It may be hard to believe, but UMC is making progress in some sports. Look at the strides UMC has made in men's basketball. Its baseball program was 29-427 (.064) over a 10-year period, but is 115-133 (.464) with two winning seasons in five years since then after a coaching change.

Several years ago I talked to a UMAC official about expansion. At that time Finlandia was looking at getting in, and it was before UW-Superior joined. He said that they had no interest in UMC because of travel.

And, as Stanger pointed out, baseball has taken great strides. Men's basketball is better than it used to be and women's basketball has been respectable since Mike Roysland got there.

Your right on that. I had a buddy from high school who played baseball there was instrumental into crookston having their first winning season in quite some time.

Football however is still lagging, although they did get a win this past year. Wouldn’t surprise me if they can get one this upcoming season.

This is an important point. UMC's closest UMAC opponent would be Morris at nearly 165 miles, nearly a 3-hour drive.
