Seriously, what is it with WT and their "scandals"? First we have ticket-gate, then spanish-gate, then odd resigning of best coach on campus to go run a travel softball program, then bus-gate....I won't be shocked by anything that comes out of canyon.

Time for an Independent Counsel to investigate. MSNBC, CNN and the Democrat Party can refer one.

Huh. Maybe there is someone who is a constant in all of these bizarre happenings?

While there is a constant, and I believe there was a thread that died a slow, painful death a while back about him, I don't believe he has anything to do with how all of those scandals happened; however, when you are at the helm and all of this happens under your watch, the powers that be must begin to question the oversight and administration.

Back to the original topic at hand, do any of the LSC teams have a shot at bringing home the overall crown? I know ASU was tied with the second most participants on the men's side and has been ranked #1 for the majority of the season but I don't follow the sport enough to know the ins and outs at the championship level.

I think Angelo, Commerce and the Javelinas all have legitimate chances at the title and WT as a darkhorse. It takes both really good performances by your team and some luck in other contenders not peaking at the meet.

Last year, everything fell into place for us. Our participants had season-bests or near bests, while several other contending schools had some stumbles. The year before, I believe, we had some guys with fouls/false starts and other marks below season bests.

I would think “home track advantage” would be beneficial for TAMUK? But who knows because track performances are hard to guess from meet to meet

Agreed, if you would have told me that I could bet on any one athlete to win their event at the conference meet, male or female, I would have picked Daisy Osauke in the discuss. She has been beating everyone by at least 15M per event. Here best throw was 30M ahead of everyone in the field coming in. I don't know what happened, but Daisy got dead last. So it is definitely difficult to tell what is going to happen on a week in and week out basis especially with the time between conference and nationals.

Not that it will help our score (b/c we are not good at long distance running), but the low altitude could hinder the runners from high altitude locations (ie. RMAC schools).

And don't forget that good ol southeast wind that could really be blowing hard as April and May are the windy season down here. And full of humidity too which regardless of the wind, will be a factor because of the recent rainfall. Unless the wind direction comes directly from the west or southwest off the mountains in Mexico because that will pump dry and hot air into the region. If that occurs, usually this time of year it will put the temps way above 100.

I recall back in in the early 90's when we played Western Colorado in the playoffs down here and those poor guys were dropping like flies in the second half because we had one of those humid and windy November afternoons. But if you have ever spent time at 10,000 feet in Colorado ... they get to laugh at us sea level people too. Last summer we went to Breckenridge and made the mistake of not staying in Denver or a lower elevation for a day to get accumulated and went straight to the lodge for which our condo was up three flights of stairs with no elevator. Holy crud! Took me two days to get adjusted.

It will actually help them. They will have more energy in lower altitude....because of a higher oxygen %. Kingsville has a 29% O level. Compared to lets say Boulder who has a 17.3% O level.....or say Aspen who has a 15.4% O level. Of course the extreme would be a place like Everest with 6.9% O level.

The increase in O% could help athletes, especially distance runners.

Last year at Western Oregon it was 75°. WO players were heaving and puking before half time. ASU guys were used to 100° days and didn't have a lot of problems.

One thing for sure... It's going to be windy ( talking about sustained winds 20-30 mph) and very humid for the rest of the week with highs in the 90's which means the good ol' heat index will be somewhere in 100's. As long as the low pressure system that is causing all the bad weather in the Panhandle and Okie land stays put in the Four Corners region, we are stuck in this pattern.
