And if the travel is over 600 miles the team can choose to use ground transport and keep the difference if I am not mistaken...

I think that I'll like this. Would add in another layer to the tea leaves to figure out if you're going to stay in your region or not, but it could lead to some interesting early matchups. And factoring in the closer programs together for the first round should at least help out for attendance as well. But still, Just Win Baby and be the top dog in your region and you don't have so much to sweat about where you're going.

Just SR1 and we would even give the PSAC a free entry every other year.

Why? DII football has specifically been excluded from auto bids for conf champs. Dont recall any push to change that and even if there was, its no where near as large as the CONSTANT drum beat form some to change the playoffs to get better (at least in the propsers eyes) teams in the playoffs. Last year the NCAA seemed to put this notion of changing the way football teams are selected for the playoffs. But the change mafia seems to never die and now the put forward this proposal and dress it up as a plan to "save money" when it has little to do with money.

Because they haven't been flexible on strict regionalization in the past.

Why do you think this is not actually a plan to save money?

I note the plan says that travel distance is the first consideration but doesn't outline what other things might be considered. Not seeding 5 through 7 is equally concerning. Sets up a situation where a region could have 3 teams that were legit 5.

Ultimately though, it comes down to how transparent the process is. I note this scheme doesn't say anything about the process being public and that is a little concerning.

Where it will get the most interesting is Round 2.
