It has happened. Another great CWU coach is moving up and heading to our big brother D1 FCS powerhouse to the east. Well deserved for Shoe, He returned our program to the national spotlight and installed a brotherhood and sense of family to the program. Best of luck to him.

Would be a good candidate. But the CWU news release mentions Coach Fisk (formerly the OL coach) will take over head coach duties. Not sure if that is permanent or not though.

It would be good for him to have a school that is 100% behind him. He has definitely shown he knows how to recruit and win at both WWU and HSU.

You always seem to know the inside scoop. So is Fisk just the interim guy and are they actually looking for someone else? Or are they sticking with Fisk?

Win with limitations. At CWU, he would have much more.

Shoe was excellent, congrats on moving up the ladder, bummer for the GNAC, but I'm sure CWU will land someone good. Shoemaker was a nice outside the box hire, maybe they'll do that again. Rob Smith is definitely worth a look.

I'm extremely happy for coach Shoemaker and kind of surprised it didn't happen sooner. The timing is really tough just months away from Spring practice. Happy for coach Fisk and it's the right hire at this time. He's going to have challenges. How he over comes those challenges with the upcoming season I'd assume will determine this future.

Well, yeah, it's good for Shoemaker but bad for CWU. I wonder if anyone told EWU that he gets the yips in tight situations...

HaHa. Yup, that was definitely a learning moment in his career. It's really bad timing for the program but at this time Fisk is the right choice. It's always going to be a stepping stone job for a younger coach. Hypothetically say Mat Taylor has interest in the position. Young bright coach but what are his career aspirations? What are Fisk career aspirations? Rob Smith is most definitely done chasing the career carrot and a long term solution for stability.

We know what Rob Smith can do. He can make a solid team, but has limited success in the playoffs (to be fair, even the two best CWU teams in recent history have had issues in the playoffs). I wouldn't mind them taking a reach for someone young, like they did with Baldwin, but then, of course, they run the risk of losing the guy like they did with Baldwin and now Shoemaker. Whatever they do, I just want the team to be competitive.

Yakima Herald mistook Commerce for West Texas A&M, but it has some quotes from Shoemaker in it.

To confirm, Fisk's promotion to head coach is permanent. He intends to essentially keep everything the same. Just a different guy delivering the speeches before and after practices and games.

Here is more on Coach Fisk's promotion. This article does mention they were able to keep their signing class intact! https://www.dailyrecordnews.com/spor...57cd05473.html

Looks like a great hire in Fisk. Good pedigree in coaching at SOU, too, and is a smart guy: He grew up in Pocatello and got out! Sorry, couldn't help myself, I'm from Idaho, I have license to dish that smack.

    Fisk sounds excellent.

As long as he keeps up the tradition of the Yearly Smackdown!

Is Napoleon Dynamite no longer the only halfway decent thing to come out of Pocatello?

I think keeping continuity with what is working could work really well too. I love that CWU still runs the ball and hasn't gone with the Air Raid offense that is in Pullman, instead going with what they have the players for.

Yakima Herald had a couple articles about CWU in the paper this weekend. One was about the new coach and a bit on how he was hired. The other was about what they saw at the spring practices.
