I also heard that but I have seen parts of 4 game thus far, all being 11 man. A good football fix for this time of year. My only complaint is the referee uniforms are kinda dorky.

They've already made more effort with this league, than they have in previous leagues. I'm with you on them getting even more involved.

I think it really helps the AAF that in everything leading up to the games Saturday, that they emphaized that this is not a rival to the NFL and that it is purely about development for those looking to get their shot/revive careers - both players and coaches (moving forward).

I agree with y'all. However, another important point, in my eyes, is that distinction from the NFL.

Obviously, some folks are down on the NFL because of several reasons and franchises like B'ham should expect to benefit from NFL-disdain more than others. The league has consistently overlooked the state for franchise opportunities and Bama folks don't forget that stuff.

I was happy that over 17K very loud fans showed up at Legion Field. I expect that to grow for the next home game.

TV is going to be the big bugger... especially with games being shifted away from CBS to tbs. Hope the numbers don't drop that steeply so the league can stay afloat and get better deals next year

I almost wonder if CBS may try to renegotiate that and carry at least one game a week. I believe I read somewhere that it surpassed the ratings for whatever they've shown in that slot the past few years.

I re-added the Sports Package to my local cable plan so I can watch on CBS Sports and the NFL Network.

You are correct sir. Not too bad of football for this time of year.

I believe you can stream the games directly from the AAF website.

Can confirm that's how I've watched most of the games seeing as how I don't have NFL Network or CBS sports network

I've watched the NFLN & CBSSN AAF games on a YouTube livestream.

Watching the Memphis Express and U Indy receiver Reece Horn returned punts and was the go to guy for QB Christian Hackenburg. He had 5 or 6 catches and looked explosive. Also fun to watch for Memphis was RB Zac Stacy who had multiple 100 yard games in the NFL for the Rams.

Attendance at AAF games has dropped substantially since week one. I doubt this league will last more than one season. I hope it will for the players sake, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't normally reply to my own posts, but I predicted this one right. The league won't last more than one season because it folded with two weeks to go in it's first season. RIP AAF.

The AAFL proves once again that the American public has zero interest in any pro league except the NFL. The ONLY way such a thing will work is if the NFL follows MLB or even the NBA and ties teams directly to NFL teams ala minor league fashion. Even then attendance will be bad for most teams but maybe over the course of 9 or 10 years, one or two of the franchises in such a league would develop a loyal fan base to the point were they become somewhat self sustaining.

U Indy WR Reece Horn inked with the Miami Dolphins after the AAF folded. Two U Indy guys on NFL teams in Florida now (OG Holcomb in the Tampa Bay Bucs).

I think the idea of spring league football is great. Seeing the amount of AAF players that signed to the NFL, shows that the talent was there and I thought the product was good. The people on money side of things need to get a sustainable model setup though. I hope the new XFL can learn from some of these mistakes..... like making it easier to actually watch the games.

This wasn't exactly a tough prediction to make...

I'm not sure how much easier it could have been. Every game was streamed for free on the AAF website and app.

Until you have a very dedicated fan base - they aren’t going to watch a game online. As D2 fans - we are used to that; but I am willing to bet that the vast majority of people have never watched a game online. If it’s not on TV - it doesn’t exist to them. Take that one further- if it’s not on one of the major sports networks and not ESPN 8, they won’t watch it either.

I think that is the point Sports Junkie is trying to make. Look at the AAFL one game that was on a major sports network- it was HUGE ratings.
