1973 NAIA Division 2 Championship game, Glenville State’s fullback scored from the one, but was not called, we ended up missing a field goal. In the Fourth quarter, Northwestern Iowa’s receiver catches a pass and scored a touchdown. In the film you can see him take two steps out of bounds which wasn’t called. That championship should have been Glenville’s.

When you can hear the head coach yell "That's un-American!" at the top of his lungs to the Referee across the field, when he asked for a measurement, after the Referee called a first down after the punt team and return teams had entered the field and never got one.

Has there ever been a head coach that has missed a call?

Whether anyone cares to admit it, the officials are as much participants in a contest as the athletes. If you pay close attention, you will find that calls and no-calls, whether it’s the 1st quarter or the 4th, impact the outcome.

That it occurred in the last 2 minutes or the first 2 is irrelevant.

Springfield MO talk radio still whines about that one at least once a week.

I mean it was pretty egregious. A failure to count to 4 by not one official but the entire crew and chain gang

I loved McCartney's take on that in ESPN's 30 for 30 "The Gospel according to Mac". I have a ton of respect for Bill McCartney. I hate to hear of his recent health problems.

Losing a down as an officiating crew is the ultimate wrong. Inadvertent whistle is one of teh worst, but missing a down is a no-no. Hard to imagine that someone on the crew didn't have it correct, they just weren't confident enough to stop the clock to discuss.

McCloskey’s Corner in Happy Valley. September game, but may have decided the 1982 national championship.

Worst call at the NCAA level.

There was no time left on the clock. To this day this still ticks me off. Big 12 was just too afraid to stand up to Texas and now the Big 12 is garbage because of them!

You are 100% correct. That call was actually the beginning of the end of the Big 12, because it underscored Texas' tremendous power in the conference. The issue with this call was that the Big 12 breached its own officiating rules to roll back the clock. Seven months later, Nebraska had joined the Big 10.

My guess is that if the Big 12 had a mulligan on that call, they would take it.

That was a pretty Horseshibby call. I was pretty dang sure that NWMSU got that ball.

How about for GVSU the ineligible number on the kicker call during the Ferris State game this year? Those Refs sucked!!!

Yes, a perfect example above - the team in question decides not to kick a FG for the win. One situation was out of the team's control, but one was.

And when the FG gets blocked or missed is it the wrong call? I have questioned many calls on the offensive side of the ball for Pueblo but that 3rd down QB sneak is clear as day.

Thanks bigmrg74....I’ve never seen Refs sprint off the field as fast as they did at the end of that game. NW came out of the pile with the ball and they still gave it to UMD.

    Tyler Roach was offside.
