What is Midwestern going to do with OC Austin leaving? The Ponies may have a very rough 2019. Thoughts?

Beard is a stud. Most of the "experts" seem to think it's already a done deal he leaves Tech. I hope they are wrong.

Did you know that former WT (and Wayland Baptist) HC Mark Adams is in charge of the defense for Tech? Mark had about an 75/80% win percentage in (I think without checking) 5 years at WT before heading to a difficult (administration problems) run as HC at UT Pan-Am. He went on to be the the HC for years at Howard Co where he won a national juco title. The tentacles of the coaching network stretch long and wide from Adams.

I’ve heard this also. But, there are two problems with Beard moving. One, the bulk of his family lives in the area. Two, and most important is the fact that he makes $2.8 million already. According to USA Today NC Coach makes $4 million and is 7th highest paid in country. My guess is it’s going to take $4 million plus to move him and there really aren’t a lot is schools that can stomach that. Interesting to see what happens. IMHO it’s going to take a Basketball Diehard Blueblood school or Texas to pony up. I don’t see it happening this year. And an added plus for Beard is there is no pressure on him in Lubbock from now to eternity.

He is already one of the highest paid coaches at 28th in country and he could get more at Tech.

I’ve heard rumblings up in Lawrence, Ks that Self is going to leave and take the Chicago Bulls job. If KU actually opened up, Beard would be on their short list and I can’t see him passing that job up. Will be interesting to see if the rumors are true...

Yes....he is a Tech Alum. WT was just one of his MANY stints. He didn't start at WT. He coached for Beard previously as well.

Adams coached WT from 87-88 season thru 91-92 season. 5 seasons. His record was 108-40.

'87-'92 Correct. I read his bio when he was an assistant coach under Beard at Little Rock. He spent his most time at Howard (10 seasons)

    ADAMS
    1981-82, Clarendon College, Head Coach
    1983-87, Wayland Baptist, Head Coach
1987-92, West Texas A&M, Head Coach
    1992-97, Texas-Pan American, Head Coach
    2004-13, Howard College, Head Coach
2013-15, Texas Tech, Director of Basketball Operations
    2015-16, Little Rock, Assistant Coach
    2016-Present, Texas Tech, Assistant Coach

Its hilarious....every school he coached at is claiming him as "their own" now that Tech is kicking butt.

In his 5 years at WT, I never saw Mark get out-coached. By anyone. Ever. The guy can flat get his guys to play defense. I spent a lot of time around him while he was at WT. He's a good person and friend.

I agree buffalochip. Up until Brown came along, I thought he was the best BB coach WT ever had. His intensity was unmatched. If Tech were to somehow lose Beard, they’d be foolish to not consider him as HC.

Wish we could see some TT style defense at the FUB.

Beard has Tech on a roll!!!! NC bound!

Wow!. Beard is a miracle worker! No wonder he won COY. I guess those 10 years under Bob & Pat Knight paid off and brought Beard home to WIN!!
