Stranger things have happened, but I can't see them choosing a D2 coach for a rising FBS program.

If it happens it's not often.

That said, there are a lot of D2 coaches with head jobs in FBS (I know VSU's coaching tree is pretty wide, and I'm sure there are many more out there). They had to work their way up though. They weren't plucked from D2 and placed in the HC job.

Not sure which division they were playing in at the time (but I believe FBS, which is where they are now), but after a very legendary run at Grand Valley Brian Kelly went to Central Michigan in 2004. He moved on to Cincinnati in '06 and then Notre Dame in '09.

I'd be very surprised if either Bell or Gilliland were considered for the job at Troy.

There's a former GSC coach among the finalists at Troy. Stay tuned :)

I would guess either Hall or Hatcher.

Would Campbell make the move from South Alabama to Troy?

Heck, even Hall and Hudspeth are mentioned on their boards now.

It's certainly an attractive job. They were paying Neal Brown $810K.

They'll need to do some road/bridge work if TT is HC.

#USF offensive coordinator update: I hear Kerwin Bell remains the leader in the clubhouse, though negotiations continue. Possible sticking point: # of coaches he'll be permitted to bring with him from Valdosta State.

STAY? GO? Whatever he is going to do, in fairness to VSU, he needs to GO AHEAD and do it.

Good to see he's got some loyalty to assistants though.

Don't know about dynasties, but for kids that want to win a championship, 14 of the last 17 D2 championships have been won by one of 4 teams (GVSU, NWMSU and VSU with 4 each and Minn-Duluth with 2).

Hopefully history will continue to repeat itself (if I were a recruit that wanted to win a championship I'd bet on it).

Don't be surprised if a bunch of coaches with GSC ties move around soon (some even for the 2nd time)

The freshmen and sophomore returning starters have an opportunity to repeat 2018. With most all coming back, they know what it takes to run the gauntlet of the GSC. I hope they are putting in the work as we speak. They will be held accountable for what they did or didn't do in the off season!!
