Anyone know if the Warriors have some early season injuries? I noticed Caleb Wagner, Connor Flack, Carter Larson and Isaiah Walden did not play last Tuesday against Loyola.

Don’t know but wouldn’t be surprised. Seems like they have a habit of beating themselves up preseason.

What, if anything, did we learn from the two exhibition games?

Pretty tough to learn anything when you are so grossly overmatched.

Kevion Taylor is a dark horse NSIC POY candidate

He is a talented player although I don't know if one performance is enough to make him a dark horse POY. Loyola really clamped down on WSU in the first half holding them to 22 points. They were not as successful with Kevion Taylor, however, as he was able to score 22 points.

Both teams would stomp on every team in the current NSIC. That’s sad too.

Most people who had been around for a while knew that it was going to be a special time and to just enjoy it. You're not often going to have a team that has 4 or 5 guys who are capable of playing professionally. The current team is very average, but they're probably at the level of what WSU fans saw before Zellmann, Malvik and the rest came to WSU.

That's why its amazing how easily WSU let Brown and Gove go. You're not going to find better recruiters in D-II. Have to question the AD's competence, big time. I'm not sure if he wanted to leave his mark on the program or what, but he sure did (and not in a good way).

It was an amazing group for the D2 level. All five starters in the first championship year were some level of DI quality. I remember the morning after they beat the Minnesota the next year Sid Hartman commenting “that point guard is better than anything we’ve got”.

I don’t know if the current AD wanted to get rid of Brown and Gove or not. If he did he has no business being an AD anywhere. I think it was a case of these guys patiently waiting to take over as Leaf had told them he would step down at some point. As things got chaotic and there was no sign he was going to willingly leave they grabbed another opportunity. Our misfortune is Leaf didn’t walk off the cliff a little earlier.

Sounds like Connor Flack is out for the year with a knee injury. Caleb Wagner broke his foot, but is back practicing.

Last night was not a promising start to the regular season. Looked out of sorts on offense most of the night and were a bit slow rotating on defense a number of times allowing the Griffs good open looks. Hopefully they can get healthy and get a rotation locked down.

Tough news on Flack. He would have been a great help to this team. He is a good defender and has some versatility.

Forked over ten bucks to watch and will probably do the same today. Unfortunately didn’t see a lot to bolster my hopes for the season. Still doesn’t appear we have any inside offensive threat as has been the case since Vette. I know such guys are hard to find with all these local cowpolk schools going D1 and getting most of the decent bigs. Seems just about all D2 teams basically live and die with three point shooting. Winona’s was way off in second half. Think they only made one. Went stone cold offensively the last few minutes. Looked rattled and put up mostly ill advised shots as they squandered the lead.

Several true freshman got considerable playing time. Can these guys still redshirt? Thought there was something new about being able to play in five games and still redshirt. You would think Eisner would want to play those players that offer the best chance to win being these are in region D2 opponents that weigh on region rankings. Let the others play against the Waldorfs and St. Mary’s of the world. Don’t give the Warriors much of a chance tonight as I expect the opponent is considerably better than last nights.

Didn’t watch either game but that was not the start I was looking for. Losing the NWMS I can understand. Yet totally worked by them not so much. The loss yesterday was a tough one because that is a team they should beat by 10-15 with a new coach, many new players and you have basically your entire team back sans 2 guys one graduate one hurt. This is the year for this staff to get it done with the guys they wanted. No more excuses. At least 4 remaining non conference games are cup cakes and the league is looking a little down so they can still get to 20 wins easily but these will hurt come regional time because the remaing games are against such weak competition and only Michigan Tech counting to a regional game could really hurt them. It’s a long season though so plenty of time to get it going

Agree with everything you state above and you should still be optimistic...but a few more lackluster performances and is it time to ask whether the squad may be a little overrated?

A little overrated? Based on this weekends performance the only logical conclusion at this time is they stink. There is no excuse for a veteran team to come out of the chute like this. Both games they started in big holes. Offense needs better ball movement. Defense needs to hustle more in guarding the three point line; among other things obviously.

I didn't realize they were rated? Which poll is this in? I have high expectations because this staff has told people all around that athletic department and in the paper for the last 4 years about how they have had to rebuild and they have to get "their players" in the system. The first year they had 3 - 1,000 point scores and couldn't win. Ok well they said the talent wasn't their. I disagreed but I could see after how bad of a situation occurred where that might happen. So then we have the next year where they started to get guys in they wanted. It has been a building process and they have been able to improve so now this is the year. No more waiting around. This program was a top 5 program in the country for 8-10 year arguably. Its time they get it going and get it done. They have horse, they have a schedule up coming that allows them to win 20 plus games again. No more excuses its go time.

They were highly rated on this message board prior to season. I believe almost everyone, including myself, had Winona in the top 3-5 of the conference. Can’t recall where the coaches poll has them, but believe in similar spot. I know preseason polls mean nothing, but to the extent the expectations were toward top of conference, it’s a fair question to ask whether the people on this message board would still have them rated so high today after the very slow start. (That’s kinda the purpose of message board to ask such questions) It’s extremely early, and Winona may win the national championship for all we really know, but after two games It appears they have not played real well.
