    Default NSIC Pick'Em Week #9 - Chat

I managed to pick all of the games right last weekend. Second perfect week this season! Not sure what's in the water to cause me to do that, but let's see if I can get a third:

Augustana at Concordia-St. Paul - While I didn't see the game, the final score indicated that last Saturday Concordia struggled a bit with Crookston, which not what I would have expected. Granted it was on the road, but still. Augie did not have any trouble all with Mary, with a dominate win whereas Mary barely scored until junk time at the end of the game. Given their respective performances against struggling teams, I'm thinking the Vikings roll into St. Paul and get a victory by at least two scores.

Minot State at Minnesota State-Moorhead - I got to watch the USF/Moorhead game this last weekend. Moorhead has a potent offense that can score. Their Achilles heel seems to be their defense, which often looked to be in the right place but was having trouble making tackles. The Dragons have an easier matchup this weekend as the so far this season the Red Beavers have only been able to score 117 points in total. Taking out their two best offensive peformances (Mary and Crookston) they've only scored 55 points, working out to a 9 point per game average. I don't think Moorhead's defense will have too much trouble holding down Minot's offense. And I would be surprised to see the Dragons bounce back from last week's frustrating game and put up some impressive offensive numbers.

Minnesota State-Mankato at Wayne State - Both of these teams look like their typical selves this season. Because of this I'm not expecting an upset. The Mavericks should win this one comfortably.

Southwest Minnesota State at Winona State - Before the season started I would have guessed this game was already decided. Now? This might be the game of the week. Or at least one of the games of the week. Winona's injuries really seem to have taken their toll on a team that originally looked like they should return to the playoffs. SMSU struggled early, but have now won three of their last four games. I'm taking the "safe" pick with Winona at home, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Mustangs get the upset win.

Bemidji State at St. Cloud State - This is the other game of the week. Both of these teams appear to be very similar. Solid teams with very physical line play. Bemidji is coming off of two consecutive losses (Upper Iowa and Mankato) and St. Cloud is coming off of two consecutive wins (Sioux Falls and Upper Iowa.) Both teams are out of playoff contention, but this game could have some impact on a MWB berth. I am thinking that this will be a very hard fought game with the Green Beavers having a slight edge over the Huskies.

Upper Iowa at Sioux Falls - Which Peacock team will get off the bus on Saturday? UIU fans are hoping it's the one that beat Bemidji. USF fans are hoping it's the one that got thumped by Concordia. Consistency hasn't been the hallmark of either of these teams this season. USF is either playing lights-out (Augie, Minot, Moorhead) or like they're half asleep (Winona, Bemidji, St. Cloud.) The Coo need one more win to cement their 25th consecutive winning season. Their three losses this season have been by a combined total of 8 points so it's not like they're getting blown out, but at the same time it still counts as a tick in the loss column even if it was close. Overall the stats suggest that USF should win this one, but they need to play inspired to do it. I'm rooting for Gabe Watson to break the school record day he had last week and get 321 rushing yards.

Minnesota-Duluth at Minnesota-Crookston - I often root for the underdog in games that have no direct bearing on my team. Just because I like to root for the underdog. It's like the movie Rocky in real life. So come on Golden Eagles! Go out and get that upset!

Northern State at Mary - Unfortunately for Maurauder fans, I don't see them winning this one. But like I am rooting for Crookston, I'm also rooting for you!

I'm really upset we're not going to win a game we're not even playing ;)

Not so fast! I wouldn’t count SCSU out just yet. They’re still technically in the hunt for the playoffs but some stuff would have to happen for them to get in. But SCSU definitely has the upper hand for the MWB berth!

After watching both Bemidji and St. Cloud quite a bit, I can say with certainty Bemidji wins by 14, minimum. It's coming from me, so no real value in it, but it would be pretty shocking to see the Hiskies win this one.

I would too but then they beat Sioux Falls. They have no bad losses but their two losses were to top 5 teams and they were beaten badly.

I tend to agree. Personally, I looked at the difference between the two UMD games. St Cloud got blown out at home, Bemidji went to double overtime on the road. Maybe there are other circumstances, but that's how I currently see it.

Not really sold on SCSU. Yes they beat USF by 3, impressive. They were hammered by UMD and Kato, Also some weak wins.
    SCSU 14-13 over Mary
    SCSU 19-14 over NSU
    SCSU 23-17 over Wayne

Augustana @ Concordia-St. Paul – CSPs only attack on offense was the run game. Which I will admit was working even though it was quite literally inside zone and qb draw most of the time. They only completed two passes all game. Augustanas defense will shut this down leaving CSP to go to the passing game which is not their strength and this one will pull away early. AU (-6)

Minot State at Minnesota State-Moorhead – Easy pick here. Moorhead isn’t a top tier team but from the two games that I have watched, they have a solid squad. Originally their only two losses being UMD and Kato, I was very impressed but after last weekend’s smashing by USF, I see this being their last win of the season. MSUM (-13)

Minnesota State-Mankato at Wayne State – Mankato comes out and plays quality football as always. Wayne although they haven’t truly been blown out in any of their six losses, this Saturday will change that. MSUM (-20)

Southwest Minnesota State at Winona State – SMSUs offense looked amazing against Northern from what I saw of the game. Not much to say here though. I still feel that Winona will handle this game, unless Daniel Davis has a ton of TDs. WSU (-6)

Bemidji State at St. Cloud State – Watched both teams live. No question that in regards to the eye test that BSU beats SCSU. Coming off of two losses might lead some people to go with the huskies on this one, but I feel that the Beaver are going to battle and try to fight for the MWB berth. BSU (-3)

Upper Iowa at Sioux Falls – UIU is now known for playing big in big time games, but they aren’t at home, and as well all know that is bad news for the peacocks. USF (-6)

Minnesota-Duluth at Minnesota-Crookston – Yes…. You read that right. Upset City. UMC (-3)

Northern State at Mary – A combined 12 points in losses to SCSU and WSU. I truly do not feel that this NSU team is as poor as their record reflects. UMary continues the road to a winless season. NSU (-6)

How about a wager on the UMD v Crookston game, especially if you give me 3 points.

    Happy Saturday.

In the early game the Golden Bears and Vikings are tied 10-10 early in the second quarter.

USF-UIU just kicked off a few mins ago. Coo forces a 3 and out before marching down the field for a score. 7-0 USF.

Watson Watch: Gabe takes what should be a no gain run for 81 yards. A peacock actually caught him so no score til a few plays later.

    14-0 Coo.

Driving again. Myles and Watson running all over the Cocks.

21-0 after one quarter at the Bob. In the version of good Coo, bad Coo. This is good Coo.

Definitely the “Good Coo!” Defense playing great. Short of the INT in the end zone and the running into the kicker call....nothing to complain about!

I'm at the SMSU VBall game so I'm not listening to the football game. Stats page is making the whole thing look a little messy on both sides. Is that an accurate assesment, or is WSU trucking along?
