Obviously IUP has 2 facilities capable of holding regionals in, which most schools don’t. The only day where you’d really have an issue would be Saturday where the men’s first round and women’s semifinals would be scheduled. If they really wanted to have both regionals entirely in the KCAC, probably the only way would be to move the women’s semis to Sunday and have those in the afternoon and the men’s semis at night, which would actually be pretty awesome.
IUP would need to win out and have Virginia Union pick up another loss. Remember IUP played a horrendous non-conference schedule (Cheyney twice, for example). Virginia Union played a way tougher lineup.
There's also the Cal problem still ahead of them in the Angelo Dome. Round 3 would be neutral court out east. I can see Edinboro beating Cal but Slippery Rock was just baffling. I've seen IUP run SRU out of the building twice -- and also destroy Edinboro. I can't imagine how Cal lost to SRU. All of that said, Cal knows how to play against IUP and has a roster that, when fired up, can cause all sorts of problems. IUP is a very finesse team and you saw Cal bring a heavy dose of physical play in the first meeting. Now, that may not work twice. The odds of Carolyn Appleby having another bad game against them aren't good.
Long story short, despite being 20-1 (or whatever it is) ... I think they need some help to host. If they finish with the same record as VUU I think they will lose out in the metrics.
Gigantic game in the CIAA tonight.
