Maybe Mercyhurst doesn't use a tier system.

    Jim Brunelli is now available.

I hate to beat a dead horse. But has anybody had any of the women’s national championship game on tonight?

Boy this was a missed opportunity for Tom.

Forgot all about given the GU earthquake. Drury’s loss really opened things up. Agree ... opportunities like that don’t come around that often.

Can’t see Mercyhurst, with a new young AD turning back the clock with Stan. They’re just starting to turn the corner as a department. No reason to hire someone from the past.

Didn’t want to watch, but I couldn’t help but watch the 4th quarter and the two OTs. On one hand it was a missed opportunity, but on a positive note, IUP’s program is definitely on the level of the top teams in the country. I would put IUP and Cal both in that category, and of course, Cal got it done a few years ago.

Gannon also let their women’s coach, Jim Brunelli, go. Complete change in the basketball office. Who’s going to handle orientation with all of the new faces coming in? Geez! Time to break out the “Hello, my name is” stickers.

Locally this change impacts Jackie Fetsko (sister of graduating IUP men’s player Todd Fetsko) from Marion Center who just signed there.

    Oops
Meant to say another GU WBB commit, MARGO LOUTZENHISER of Warren HS and PIAA D10 POY, is also in the awkward spot of having agreed to play for a coach who is no longer there. I know there's been changes recently but what rights do players have when a coach leaves or is fired. If she has a choice, she could do a lot worse than joining WHS grad DJ HAHN @CAL U.

They don't have any rights. They should pick the school and not the coach.

They can beg for their release but GU doesn't have to grant it.

Your right it doesn’t make a lot of sense to give up a quality education. There are reasons Brunelli is not coming back. It’s more than just not winning. These girls will get an upgrade in coaching and will enjoy their experience more under new leadership.

While you're correct that they should choose the school, the reason that WBB programs at CAL, IUP and BORO are consistently loaded has less to do with the quality of education at those universities, as good as it may be, and more to do with the opportunity to play BB at a high level with a legitimate chance to go deep in the NCAA playoffs. In the world of DII WBB the PSAC is a significant player on the national scene sending a team to the EE on a very regular basis. It may be that GU will hold on to all their recruits but it may not be in the best interests of the student-athletes.
