NCAA ReOpens Bids for 2018 Championship Game. Game WILL NOT be played in Kansas City. Sporting KC pulls out of commitment to renovate field.

Wow. Pretty late in the game to make a change.

    Yikes... 3 months out....

Pulled this post from the General board: "Sporting KC / Childrens Mercy Park really screwed Kansas City and the MIAA. They just notified them that they are wanting to redo their pitch after the season (which could be as late as Dec 8) but are unwilling to wait until after the NC game.

MLS team can't wait a week or so to change the field?

Will be interested to see where it ends up... Perhaps back down south. Florence is just down the road from me.... Hmmmm

I think Florence probably makes a lot of sense, at least for this year.

Or Perhaps the SF Sports Authority could add another D2 event to their resume by covering Howard Wood Field with a temporary bubble and burning Denny's money for heat or shoehorn a field in the Denny or Pentagon. The Sioux Falls Sun Conference must find a way.

If the NSIC footprint were to host, I would vote for the Vikings practice facility stadium or the new MLS stadium (wouldn't work this year). Unfortunately, both are outdoors so neither would be likely to pass.

A bubble? Can no one play football outside anymore? Ha

I think you're right. I just emailed folks in the know there. We shall see.

I love cold weather games.... However, ask the UNA fans how they feel about the ice storm natty a 2 years ago and you might get a slightly different response.

Yes. For sure. But, even Florence (hosted for 26 years) has bad weather that time of year. Some years, short sleeves. The 1989 D2 Title Game had a dusting of snow.

I'm on the same page as you. I havent enjoyed a single game I've been to that was played in a dome. I may feel different about it in 40 years, ha

Bad December weather in MN/SD slightly different than bad December weather in AL.

They won't put it on either coast. They won't put it in the North- too cold. Not sure of how many venues would be the right size- you don't want an NFL or FBS stadium. Texas? Back to Florence?

Or you could put it in Fargo. That has a dome.

LOL. UNA playing there next week. I think I called it a "really loud gym-like structure" they call a dome.

We could have snowmobiles deliver fans to the game! Chocolate milksicles and Bison burgers for all!

Blakeslee Stadium should make a pitch to host the game ;)

Actually there are several around. NDSU, UND, USD, UNI- all within about five hours drive time for me.

And of course the Vikings stadium.
