Default Carson-Newman Opens 2018 at West Florida....

We're going to know what kind of team the Eagles have right away.

Considering that C-N usually opens the season with an NAIA team (though they did play Humboldt State a couple years ago), that's a pretty tough way to start the season.

I wouldn’t say usually, they’ve only done it two times I can remember. They’ve opened against Winona State (twice), Glennville State (twice), Humboldt, Wayne State (twice), Edinboro since 2009

Agree, we opened with Pikeville last year and Cumberlands in 2015, The only other time I can remember was I think we had Webber International some time in the mid 2000's. Pretty sure we had Concord and several CIAA teams in there as well, Shaw, Winston-Salem State...

Opening with an NAIA team is a small minority

Opening against one of the top favorite teams to win the NCAA Division 2 National Football Championship this coming season will be a difficult task to say the least. Lots of returners for the Argonauts boosted by a beast of a signing day (loaded with impact transfers) and led by one of the very top football coaches in this division.

I'm not going to give a prediction for this one.

Agreed. Luckily CN should be absolutely loaded this year as well with lots of returning starters and getting a Harmon Hill level RB back.

Hope this is a home and home.

I can neither confirm nor deny until we officially release.

I just found out that Catawba opens at West Georgia, followed by a road game at Winston-Salem State, then a home game against Pembroke before conference play begins. The other non-conference game is home against Albany State. There's not a gimme in the slate. Given our need to replace our QB, top running back, and entire linebacker corps (including an All-American), it will be a significant challenge to achieve last season's 9-2 record. It should be an interesting year with lots of quality opponents.

    Sept. 1 @ West Georgia
    Sept. 8 @ WSSU
    Sept. 15 UNCP
    Sept. 22 @ Mars Hill
Sept. 29 Carson Newman (Family Weekend)
    Oct. 6 Albany State
    Oct. 13 @ Wingate
    Oct. 20 Tusculum (Homecoming)
    Oct. 27 Limestone
    Nov. 3 @ Newberry
    Nov. 10 @ Lenoir Rhyne

Tough schedule, no doubt about it. With the Indian's losses of key personnel, and a lack of quality transfers being signed this year, I would be looking at a potential 6-5 or 5-6 season this year.

    Best of luck Indians!

Seriously though, it's nice to see the local sports writer producing such an optimistic and encouraging article for the Salisbury area fans. Articles like that help build enthusiasm and hope, which also helps in filling seats.

    Good luck Indians!
