Any new photos? I tried to see it as we drove by for sweet 16 but we were in a hurry to get there so we did not stop. Then when it was time to leave it was already dark and was hard to see.

With the construction of the Baseball park in Amarillo complete, I would think the pace at our
field would increase. With daylight saving time and the lights being up they could work 24/7 if needed.

Way different than what I was expecting. I've only seen the renderings on the website so I didn't have too many pictures to go off of but I thought the press box was one large tower. Looks like most of it will be 2nd and 3rd story with a big entry way on ground level to the stands and suites.

The ground level seating is at the entry level to the stadium & the playing field is several feet below. The next level up is the Suite level which will be enclosed within separate sections having glass in front for viewing. Above the Suite level is the Club level which will be accessible by elevator & credentials - take the elevator up to the Club & then exit out to the 5 seating sections. Above the Club level is a huge Press Box including all security & operations of the stadium. Above the Press Box will be the area manned for filming & related - understand tethering is required to be there (was up there today & understand why).

Thanks for the info, I'm anxious to be able to tour the facility.

The live cam shows quite a bit of progress this week. Starting to look like a stadium.

It seems like they have so much left to do, I don't see how it is going to be ready on time.

I'm sure. Every time I do look after work they have already shut it down before 6. I guess that means they are on schedule?

Was the plan to pour concrete on the North hill all along? It didn't look like it in the renderings, but I noticed last night they have covered the North side with concrete

So, the new stadium is supposed to seat 8500. There is some concern that the trend of WT football fan interest is dwindling. I went back to 2016 and saw where WT had home games with Tarleton and TAMUK and had attendance numbers of 10k and 12k for those games. As the season wore on those numbers went to 4K and then to 2k. 2017 never saw these figures usually hovering around 6k in 2017 except for Adams State where 8k showed up. Same in 2018 only one game of 8k with ENMU and a drop of 5k and 6k with Tarleton and TAMUK. Huge loss of interest in just two years with the same two teams.

    1. Either there is a serious decline in football attendance overall not just limited to WT.

    2. Hughes football doesn’t excite fans.

    3. WT anticipated fans were no longer going to come out in numbers of the past.

Any thoughts? Did this stadium fit a budget? I’m sure the Admin seeing this trend downward didn’t want to overextend.

From a D2 perspective, things are quite rosey for WT.

Regardless of who the coach is, your max attendance for a typical D2 game is 10-12K. There are only a handful of D2 games per year that draw even that. More likely it is 2 to 3 thousand.

With no competitors around and sitting in an MSA of 275K with another 200K surrounding, WT will always draw more than the vast majority of D2 schools even if they suck. Their very worst turnout will still equal the D2 national average most likely.

    Big fish, little pond.
