If Moorhead played in the South Division they would have more losses and wouldn't be ranked.

Interesting 3 game road trip for Northwest starting with Missouri Western on Saturday, Lincoln University next Thursday and Lindenwood next Saturday. Missouri Western (6-12 overall, 3-7 MIAA) has been playing better of late. The same trip to Lincoln and Lindenwood last year ended in 2 losses for Northwest. Lincoln is 13-6 overall and 6-4 MIAA. Lindenwood is down this year at 14-8 overall and 4-6 MIAA.

Only rankings that matter are the last set of Regional Rankings.

Examining the league's top two records:

    MSUM (17-3, 15-3 D2)
Losses: at Southern Nazarene (8-8), vs. NSU (14-6), vs. MSU (13-7)

    SMSU (16-3, 16-3 D2)
Losses: at UIU (14-6), vs. UIU (14-6), at BSU (7-12)

At this point, I think all the teams that will make it are already starting to pack their bags for Maryville, Missouri.

    So, NWMSU and Monticello?

Especially this year in the NSIC Moorhead and SMSU could find themselves dropping as others rise. I'm not saying it will happen by any means, but either of those two mentioned could potentially away from this weekend 0-2.

Here's to hoping it's both of them. :)

In all seriousness, Augie needs a couple of solid weekend sweeps to get things back on track and keep their Regional hopes more firmly intact. Unfortunately, unless we really start showing more consistency (especially closing out games more consistently down the stretch), I'm afraid 2-0 weekends will be a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation. At least when teams like St. Cloud, Moorhead, SMSU, etc. are on the schedule for the weekend. Then again, I would love to be proven wrong. Maybe we can make it 3-straight years of 19-game winning streaks starting with this past Saturday's win against Winona.

(To be clear, that would mean winning every single game we play from now until the National Championship. :) )

Dropping as others rise? Who do you think is rising?

I think there's enough of a cushion for the top four teams. They still have to take care of business, but it'd take a big collapse for them to fall completely out of the regional.

Cushion, no doubt. I just meant as unpredictable as the NSIC has been (Coach usually points it out weekly) it's not out of the question that anyone that I'd 3-8 (as of now) could end up being 9th or 10th. Plenty must happen of course but only the top two are seemingly "locked" as of today.

Southwest has a difficult schedule coming up but they have some room for error. If they go 5-3 at the worst I still think they are in, 4-4 should get them in only around 3-5 would the issues start to creep in.

It's tough, but we've already beaten Northern and Augie on the road and Mankato at home. Not that it guarantees success against them, but it's not a complete unknown how we match up. The biggest thing is we can't trip up against some of these other teams. The ND roadtrip, Wayne and Concordia are musts.

I was actually just texting Augieholic about how I'm looking forward to Augie's SMSU/USF trip in a few weekends. That was the first weekend in a long time when I thought Augie really let two winnable games get away. And the Vikes have been playing well in Marshall for the past several years. Even the three losses we've had at SMSU since 2010-11 were by 2 points, 3 points and 1 point. Obviously the Mustangs are 6-1 at home this year and the Vikes have shown they're more than capable of coming out flat or letting 2nd half leads slip away, but I would hope they come to Marshall ready to play after blowing the game at home a few weeks ago.

I'll be surprised if SMSU drops many more, but I hope they drop at least one to the Vikes.

Well, Monticello since NWMSU is in Maryville, Missouri. No need to pack a bag for your own home.

Right now, I'd say MSU-Moorhead, SMSU, Upper Iowa, and Augustana are the most "in the hunt" from the NSIC, Central Missouri, Washburn, and Lincoln from the MIAA, and East Central, Arkansas Tech, and Harding from the GAC.

Obviously that's 10 teams vying for six spots, so these bags are obviously just sitting by the door and haven't been packed on the bus yet. There's a lot of basketball yet to be played, so we don't know where things will go from here.
