This should be a very exciting year for SAC Football.

Under the SAC agreement, UNC Pembroke, as a Scheduling Alliance Member, will not be eligible for the outright SAC conference title, or D2 earned access qualification. Technically with this agreement, if UNCP wins the SAC Football Challenge Championship, and another team wins the SAC Football Conference Championship title, and an earned access qualification is needed for the NCAA D2 playoffs, the nod would go to the Conference Champion, even if the Challenge Champion has a better overall record. (SAC Member Poll to follow)

Lenior Rhyne in last, what happened there?

Probably because Lenoir Rhyne has lost several key players from a team that really struggled at 3-8 last season. A lot of holes to fill, prognosis doesn't look that good. Plus they can't count on basically a freeby with hapless Brevard (now D-3) coming off of the tougher schedule. Brevard was replaced by West Alabama on this year's schedule.

I believe they also did a total offensive scheme change without changing out player personnel. Their new head coach is very good but it will take him several years to fully convert the program from triple option to a more traditional spread.

Crazy that Lenoir Rhyne has fallen this much, they were in the National Championship game 4 years ago and now are preseason projected to finish last in their conference..

I wonder if Coach Keller regrets leaving Cal so soon for that L-R job. Funding wise they're probably offering less than Cal which hurts when competing against other SAC schools as well as CIAA schools and the FCS programs in NC/SC for quality players.

When he made the move he said one of the reasons was the additional resources available. Plus with a private school he's recruiting with monopoly money rather than having to go out and fundraise every dollar. Any fundraising at private schools goes to the extras like equipment, travel costs, recruiting budget, locker rooms, etc.

They are fully funded. Cal is not

This doesn't appear to be the official preseason ranking for this league. The SAC website doesn't mention any rankings yet.

All in all, the final results have ranged around 61 - 67% (after the regular season), which isn't bad considering how a lot of teams have had up and down seasons. It's harder this year with not having Brevard as part of the mix. Something to have fun with in the off-season.

Each correct final season ranking will count as 10 points. Each team which is 1 ranking away (at the end of the season) from the preseason ranking will count as 5 points. As a bonus, the correctly chosen conference champion, will count as an additional 15 points.
The player with the highest tally after the final season game is played will take first place ____ second placed ____ and third place____.

I believe that when wscsuperfan started this thread he intended it to be the Official Release by the Conference whether voted on by the Coaches, Sports Information or Conference Staff. Not by someone else, a group, you or myself included.

If the SAC doesn't release a Official Preseason Poll please state it, but don't substitute another poll.

I only intended to post the official conference polls, but if the SAC doesn't do one, then the one substituted will suffice

I just did a google search and found that the 2016 preseason poll of the SAC was released on August 1, 2016 and voted on by the coaches.

No disrespect to Eagle74, but there will be an official SAC preseason poll released within the next couple of weeks. But, at least it'll stimulate some debate, if nothing else.

No problem. We will now only post the official SAC preseason poll.

The conference champion is not a consideration in EA. Wouldn't it be the highest-ranked SAC team? For instance:

    1. North Alabama
    2. Valdosta State
    3. Winston-Salem
    4. Tuskegee
    5. West Florida
    6. Bowie State
    7. Florida Tech
    8. UNC-Pembroke
    9. Catawba
    10. Delta State

In that scenario, would Catawba knock Florida Tech out of the playoffs instead of Pembroke knocking Florida Tech out?
