Koby Orris showed some really abililty last year in the Saginaw Valley game, I expect him to be a real contributor. Also Corsaro will help at safety, but may take some time as he has played 1.5 games in the position and won't be participating this spring. Corsaro has a good head on his shoulders though and should be able to make up with what he misses physically with his classroom work. I think he can be a vocal leader with Ban in the secondary.
I really like the Defensive front of Maida, Strong, Surface, and Jordan. Those are all experienced guys. I've heard Strong has worked himself back into the #1 spot after suffering a year ending knee injury vs GVSU. He also was granted a medical red-shirt. Maida is just an animal period. The one thing I'd like to see changed in our defensive strategy is the pinning back of the ears and just going too deep into the offensive backfield. It gives up draw plays and sometimes the DL will run right by the ball carrier. It'd be nice if they worked on getting a Yard deep then reacting to the play I think it might stuff up the run a little bit better.
Offensively, the battle to replace Forney is between RC Houser and Greg Johnson. Hopefully between the two we will get solid production. I know Johnson has had a hamstring issue this spring and been limited, but Houser is solid in practice. I expect another big season from Edmonds and a big break out season for Branden Williams. I've also heard Reese Horn has been producing well this spring. They are experimenting with more 4 wide sets as well as some 5 wides, which I thought is something they should have implemented last year. I still think we need to disguise our run a game more. It is too predictable.
Anyway. I look forward to the Spring game in two weeks. Should be a good one.
