    Welcome!
Jerrett Ban started every game last year at corner I believe. Andre Smith has size and contributed a lot last year. With Paul Corsaro back at safety, Koby Orris or John Strickland have the skills to move around position-wise. Josh Bass has looked good we hear. He is on the small side but makes up for it with a lot of talent. Cornerback is one of our biggest unknowns along with outside linebacker.

Both Aaron Ruth and Collin Coffer had shoulder injuries and Ruth never made it back. Coffer was our cover guy for three years. Loved his pick vs. Sag Valley. Ruth was the hybrid DB. His pops is a coach and somebody I know. I was really hoping he would be around another year but not. Least we have another scholarship to give.

I think it's good for these inexperienced DB's to have a good QB and WR to have to defend all spring. I am not sure they will see a better combo than Mills and Edmonds. Koby Orris showed some really abililty last year in the Saginaw Valley game, I expect him to be a real contributor. Also Corsaro will help at safety, but may take some time as he has played 1.5 games in the position and won't be participating this spring. Corsaro has a good head on his shoulders though and should be able to make up with what he misses physically with his classroom work. I think he can be a vocal leader with Ban in the secondary.

I really like the Defensive front of Maida, Strong, Surface, and Jordan. Those are all experienced guys. I've heard Strong has worked himself back into the #1 spot after suffering a year ending knee injury vs GVSU. He also was granted a medical red-shirt. Maida is just an animal period. The one thing I'd like to see changed in our defensive strategy is the pinning back of the ears and just going too deep into the offensive backfield. It gives up draw plays and sometimes the DL will run right by the ball carrier. It'd be nice if they worked on getting a Yard deep then reacting to the play I think it might stuff up the run a little bit better.

Offensively, the battle to replace Forney is between RC Houser and Greg Johnson. Hopefully between the two we will get solid production. I know Johnson has had a hamstring issue this spring and been limited, but Houser is solid in practice. I expect another big season from Edmonds and a big break out season for Branden Williams. I've also heard Reese Horn has been producing well this spring. They are experimenting with more 4 wide sets as well as some 5 wides, which I thought is something they should have implemented last year. I still think we need to disguise our run a game more. It is too predictable.

Anyway. I look forward to the Spring game in two weeks. Should be a good one.

Thanks for the good post: I highlited my agreement. Think with all the weight on the D-line, they'll play it different and we'll be rotating in rush ends. Heard Keevers say he's gonna use 8 or 9 in the rotation. In another year, we really need to reload on the D-line though. I wonder if they are a step slow this year? Hope BDub has a good season at WR. He can do it. LOVED his TD catch vs. Sag Valley. I'd like to see the spread often. Forney is impossible to replace.

Just a reminder that Corsaro was impressive as a true freshman on the Youngstown State first string kickoff team.
Also it is interesting that after all these years, he is going to see the likes of Western Illinois on the schedule again.

Well after watching Saturday's practice the Defense finally picked it up a notch. They were flying to the ball and looked like really solid for this time of the year. The offense struggled a little today. It could be after this many weeks of practice the D knows whats coming but the DB's looked pretty good and the LB's were filling lanes. I am ready to watch a good scrimmage next Saturday and see who is really gonna bring the heat. I think if the offense is clicking we will see a well balanced scrimmage next week. The best part about it is knowing what we see now will only get better when we get the other seniors back to practice this fall.

Thank you for the spring report. I plan on dropping by next week to see how the team has progressed.

Who is in the mix for joining Jerret Ban at the other cornerback position? Is it Andre Smith, Joshua Bass, Will Brucker? Dorow, Keys, Wehby??

It looks to be Smith and Ban at CB's as of now but we are still along way from the fall season, I'm sure there are some guys that will work over the summer to take a spot if they can.

Andre Smith will give us some nice size at corner.
He's already active on special teams. Just needs to add another ten pounds of muscles. Gotta love the Chicagoland guys!

Now that All-Gliac return specialist Ryan Forney has graduated we need a new burner!

Who's it gonna be? Who's the speedsters? Johnson? Hauser? Bass? Ban?
Klay will help kickoff return again but in my opionon he's stretched too thin. Already on kickoff team. Already getting the bulk of the handoffs.
Maybe after the scrimmage tomorrow someone can let me know?

I will try to get a good well balanced idea on Saturday of who's gonna be where.

Sixteen Delta State players from the football states of California, Florida, and Texas on their Spring Roster.
Great to have them at "The Key"! Great work Bart and staff.

I just got word the scrimmage will be different this year, with the team being split into two teams of offense and defense instead of offense vs. defense. Crimson vs. White let the competition begin for the starting roles. Can't wait !!!!!!
