Let's talk playoff possibilities

by Brad Keith on 11-13-2011 at 02:55 PM
There's one sure thing in the Super Region IV puzzle as teams from the Lone Star Conference and MIAA anxiously await the unveiling of the Division II playoff bracket.

The Region IV title is going through Wichita Falls, Tex. For all Midwestern State did wrong Saturday, the Mustangs did one thing very, very right - win.

So the Mustangs will be No. 1 in the region and behind them it's all a math game with perhaps a little human input at the end.

The year of the Mustang? Why not?

Why not Midwestern?

In this topsy-turvy year in Division II football, why can't it be the season an LSC school finally breaks through in the national title chase?

Midwestern State put up some mind-boggling offensive numbers in its rout of Abilene Christian Saturday night.

The Mustangs had 740 total yards, averaging better than 9 per rush and 10 per snap.

They had 10 possessions - 8 touchdowns and 2 punts.

They faced just nine third downs and converted six.

They reached the red zone 8 times. They scored all 8. Touchdowns, not field goals.

In short, they executed to near perfection and

ACU-Midwestern biggest game of year

by Brad Keith on 10-21-2011 at 02:53 PM
Midwestern State has averaged 50.8 points and is 6-0 for the first time since 1947.

And in the eyes of most, the Mustangs are an underdog this week.

That's the parity of the LSC - and the strength of Abilene Christian - on display at its best.

The Midwestern-ACU game should be a barnburner that will will continue to spell out how the Lone Star Conference championship race will shape up this year. In all likelihood, the winner will be the conference champ,
