That is a fantastic point. I noticed that too, but didn't think about the impact of those "warmups" like you did. Not sure if they did it before all...

Makes sense, especially about setting up the press break offense. I knew the point was to slow the game down, but at the same time, sometimes it took...

I'm admittedly not basketball savvy as far as strategy goes, but as fun as it was to watch (and it really, really was), I couldn't help but feel...

Questionable D? Chico was 4th in scoring D and just outside the top 10% (37th out of 350) in FG defense for the year in the regular season.....

  1. I remember that day! Was a good day, too! Yes, when I go to games, I do sit up there most of the time.

Thank you for the kind words....still getting my feet wet, and hope to do some more in depth stuff next year, but I'm really enjoying doing this so far!
  2. Howdy! BC Dude introduced us down at Tahlequah a couple of years ago. Do you sit up in EE with all the regulars? I'm over in Section C with the family and older alumni and townies (I fit all three categories!).

Keep up the good work. If you want some photos sometime let me know. I have a decent camera and photo pass for home games.

A Recap of the 2016 Season

by Ian Carlson on 12-21-2016 at 10:15 PM
The 2016 season came to an end this past Saturday and, for the sixth time, the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats were the last team standing as they knocked of the North Alabama Lions 29-3 in a snowstorm at Childrenís Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas in front of what looked to be about 5,000 fans. While the game was played in less than favorable conditions, it caught the eye of almost 800,000 people across the country on ESPN2, making it the highest rated D2 National Championship game in some time.

2016 National Championship Game Preview

by Ian Carlson on 12-14-2016 at 10:25 PM
Roughly three and half months ago, 170 Division II teams began the journey that will culminate this weekend at Childrenís Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The two left standing are both unbeaten in D2 play this year, and just happen to be the two programs with the most playoff appearances (21) and playoff wins in Division II history. The Lions of the University of North Alabama are looking for their 36th playoff win and fourth title in five tries, having won it all three straight times from

Coaching changes and the Semifinals

by Ian Carlson on 12-08-2016 at 10:18 PM
Itís been an eventful week since the last MIAA blog, as three conference teams were in action in postseason games, one of those teams will be playing in the National Semifinals, and the two open head coaching positions have been filled. As if that wasnít enough to write about, another bombshell hit the MIAA (and D2) landscape when rumors surfaced that NWMSU Head Coach Adam Dorrel has been offered and has accepted the same position at NCAA FCS Abilene Christian University. Now, it is very important

Two Bowl Games, a Rematch, and a Look at Who Might Host in the Semifinals

by Ian Carlson on 12-01-2016 at 08:26 PM
The NCAA Division II Playoffs are down to the Super Regional finals, and the four games this upcoming Saturday will determine the National Semifinalists. With the Bearcats and Hornets playing each other last week, it was ensured an MIAA team would play in the regional final for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons (only the 2014 season being the exception since the 2004 campaign, which was also the year the playoffs expanded to from 16 to 24 teams). For the fourth time in the last 5 seasons (again,

The Rise of the Hornets

by Ian Carlson on 11-25-2016 at 10:19 PM
The first weekend of the postseason is over, and the Hornets of Emporia State are still alive and doing well. Very well. For the second straight year, the Hornets beat a traditional NSIC power in the first round of the playoffs, this time knocking off the flagship program Minnesota Duluth. Granted, UMD hasnít won the outright overall NSIC title since their 2010 National Title season, but that fact doesnít tarnish the accomplishment for a team that made the playoffs for the fourth time in their
