Even with only one GSC team still playing football, there were several newsworthy events here in Week 14 of the 2016 football season.
This week had notable announcements of certain awards and honors, namely the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year and All-America Team.
The GSC had eight players named to the AFCA All-America First and Second Teams. Junior Chris Robinson from Delta State made the first team offense while seniors Dylan Donahue from West Georgia,
Itís that time of the season when the two survivors of Super Region 2 face off for the opportunity to represent the region in the national semi-finals. This yearís game will feature a rematch from a regular season contest, which often happens in this region. We have also recently learned who will represent the conference in Hill Trophy finalist voting.

Well, I (like several others) was 0-3 in my predictions for SR2 games as all three higher seeds lost in round one of the D2 playoffs. It was hard to watch the two GSC teams lose but I was happy to see Tuskegee sort of prove some folks wrong. Although, itís never really satisfying to see a team get beat when they are not playing with key personnel like FIT and Newberry as both played without their regular-season starting quarterbacks.

It was a good final weekend of GSC action as all games went as most expected including wins for North Alabama, Florida Tech, Valdosta State, West Alabama, and West Georgia. Congratulations to all teams, players (especially seniors), and coaches on another great year of Gulf South Conference football action.
