PSAC Playoff week 2

This weekend we have one PSAC remaining in the playoffs, last week both Kutztown and West Chester dropped home contest while the Rock went on the road and handed LIU Post their first lose of the season in what will be the final NCAA D2 game for the Pioneers as they will merge athletic departments with the LIU Brooklyn and the LIU Post football team will join the NEC along with teams such as Robert Morris, Saint Francis and Bryant next season.

West Chester the PSAC Champion dropped a game to New Haven after their starting QB got hurt late in the game, Kutztown played well but fell by fourteen points to GMAC Champion Hillsdale. The PSAC East did not advance out of the first round of the playoffs, this may have been a case of smoke and mirrors as both Kutztown and West Chester rolled through a weak division this season and racked up impressive records while the PSAC West and the GMAC beat up on each other through October and into the first week of November.

Super Regional 1 Playoffs matchups Week 2:

#5 Hillsdale (GMAC Champion) @ #1 Notre Dame College (MEC Champions)
#7 Slippery Rock ( PSAC West Champions) @ New Haven ( NE10 Runner up)

Game Previews:

#5 Hillsdale @ #1 Notre Dame

• Notre Dame looks to continue the best season in program history as they host the champions out of the GMAC in the Chargers of Hillsdale College. The only game I seen the Falcons play this season was their game with Fairmont State the game was play in terrible conditions but the Falcon came away with the victory with a late blocked punt. They also have come back late a few times late in the season in what I believe showed a team running out of gas. The fact is they completed an 11-0 season and host a second round game. Hillsdale battled through a strong GMAC and they went to Kutztown and rolled over the Golden Bears last weekend. The difference in this game will be the passing attack of Hillsdale, if the Chargers can move the ball in the air they will upset the top seeded Falcons. The Pick Hillsdale 40 NDC 27

#7 Slippery Rock @ #6 New Haven

• The last remaining PSAC team take another long trip this weekend, last week they traveled to long island and this week it is to West Haven Connecticut. The Rock will look to continue their season to a Regional Championship game. SRU has gained over one thousand more yards than New Haven this season and are averaging 37.1 ppg compared to the 31.6 ppg of New Haven. Both of these teams played close games last weekend as both won by one score. The Rock will look to continue to lean on the strong arm of Roland Rivers this week. I believe SRU is a better team and if things were even they would win this game by 15 points. My fear for the Rock and the PSAC is that they are playing another long road trip and ridding on busses although not the worst way to travel can take a toll of the athletes and all involved. That being said this appears to be a passionate team that will show the resolve of western Pennsylvania, the resolve of a hard working blue collar work ethic that will be on display once again this week as they travel to the northeast. The Pick SRU 34 UNH 30

These should be two great games and for that we should be thankful, but as a league we need to be thankful for all the coaches, athletes and everyone who allow us to enjoy NCAA D2 football. Everyone have a safe weekend and enjoy time with you family and of course some football.

Slippery Rock has lost two games - both were PSAC East schools. IUP lost to Ship. Cal lost to Kutztown and Gannon - a team that both Kutztown and West Chester defeated. Doesn't really look like the PSAC West beat up on each other. Laughable.
