Super Regional 1 Opening Weekend:

After the eleven week battle in four strong leagues only seven programs remain in Super Regional 1. With only really one team having much of an argument on being left out, that program is two lose Ohio Dominican. Multiple PSAC programs have made the playoffs this season, the seeds are West Chester as the three, Kutztown the four and sneaking in at number 7 is the Rock.

Opening weekend matchups:

#7 Slippery Rock (9-2) PSAC West Champion @ #2 LIU Post (10-0) NE-10 Champions
#6 New Haven (8-2) NE-10 Runner up @ #3 West Chester (10-0) PSAC Champions
#5 Hillsdale (9-2) GMAC Champions @ #4 Kutztown (9-1) PSAC East Runner up
Bye #1 Notre Dame College (10-0) Mountain East Champion

Thoughts on the bracket:

• This is a very even bracket, I believe all seven of the programs had strong enough resumes and 9-2rolled into the playoffs unchallenged. Even with NDC being the only MEC team in the bracket, probably the second team out Fairmont State, the Falcons also had tests from Shepherd and UC in the league. The GMAC may have been too deep this season, with Hillsdale making the playoffs and Ohio Dominican just missing the field for the second season. Findlay 8-3 and Tiffin 9-2 also had strong programs out of the GMAC. In NE-10 two programs make a showing this season, both LIU Post and New Haven have had strong season. With New Haven for playoff reason they are 8-1 because a game with Bryant (FCS) does not count against the win lose record. The NE10 was helped by programs like Assumption and Pace also having strong seasons to lift the view of the league. In the PSAC we see three programs in this year’s field, West Chester, Kutztown and Slippery Rock, a combined three loses between them make a very strong group entering the playoffs. When looking at the PSAC I am more surprised by not seeing IUP a program expected to roll in the West who stumbled with California and Slippery Rock mid season and then lost in the finale with another disappointing program Shippensburg. Edinboro, California and Shippensburg were all teams that had shown flashes this season but all along with IUP came up short of expectations.

Game Capsules:

#7 Slippery Rock ( 9-2) @ #2 LIU Post (10-0)

• The NE10 Champions will play host to Slippery Rock in this opening round clash, the high powered Slippery Rock offense will be tested by the Pioneers. Post has head opponents under thirteen points in all but three games. Wes Hill and his 1205 rushing yards and Roland Rivers who since becoming the Rock starter rose to third in PSAC passing yards. I expect the Rock to rebound and advance into the second round. The Pick Slippery Rock 31 LIU Post 24

#5 New Haven (8-2) @ #3 West Chester (10-0)
• Last week the Golden Rams traveled across the commonwealth and won the PSAC Championsip in dominating fashion. The 33-10 victory was sweet redemption after dropping last seasons PSAC game at home. The Golden Rams were rewarded with a home contest against the NE10 runners up the Chargers of New Haven. West Chester lead the PSAC in both Scoring offense and defense. New Haven will look to stop the stout rushing offense of the Rams. The Chargers were able to score 31 points per game this year but struggled to score last weekend against the Pioneers. Look for the Rams to continue this run in the second round. The Pick West Chester 38 UNH 24

#5 Hillsdale (8-2) @ #4 Kutztown (9-1)
• It took overtime for the Golden Bears to move to 9-1 last weekend in Edinboro, the teams played in some terrible weather but the memories will last a lifetime. The Golden Bears will look to build on that emotional victory as they play host to the GMAC Champion Hillsdale College. The Chargers will make the long trip to Kutztown and try and make the league proud, as they look to rebound after falling 34-24 last weekend to Indianapolis. The Chargers must try and slow the Golden Bear offense that is scoring just a tick over 39 points per game. This will be the closest of the games this weekend. Kutztown seems to be the better program this season but much like last season when GMAC school Findlay went to Shepherd and won in the opening round don’t be surprised if the Chargers surprise everyone once again. Hillsdale will put up points but has failed to step up and stop the better offenses they have played. The Pick Kutztown 40 Hillsdale 27

This is setting up to be a very competitive region and we will be here to follow the story as these seven programs push towards a Region Championship. Best of luck to all these programs as they play this weekend; as a league let’s hope we have two games left to preview next weekend.

don't worry he hasn't been perfect in his picks this year. Picked IUP to beat THE ROCK, picked Cal to beat THE ROCK and picked Edinboro to beat THE ROCK; maybe he just gets the ROCK game right this week

Well, according to his expert picks and if I were you, I would hope that he picked Post to win this game.

I watched the SRU game with Kentucky State as well as when they played Shippensburg and I was not sold on them until I saw them live again late in the season. The way they were playing on offense before last week I was shocked that WCU shut them down the way they did. Post is in for a battle on Saturday.
