  1. The CIAA 2018 Recap

The off season has already started for all except two teams in Division II, which means it’s time for a recap. Relatively speaking, the conference actually did better than last year across the board. It may not feel like it with individual teams, but I think so when looking across the national and regional landscape. Let’s talk about some of the good and not so good.

Good: First and foremost, Bowie State did the conference a solid by advancing out of the first round. It was ...

  2. CIAA Championship Week: Wait, but the regular season isnt over yet.

There wasn’t a more surprising score from last week than the one of Fayetteville State and Winston-Salem State. Rivalry games have a way of bringing out the best or the worst in opponents, and last Saturday was no exception. WSSU rattled off 51 points in its blowout of FSU, and 51 points were the most points the Rams had scored in a game since 2016 against Lincoln. 3. CIAA Week 6: The Real Season Begins!

The rumors of their demise are greatly exaggerated. Such was the case of the Fayetteville State “Cardiac” Broncos, who picked up last year’s stride of finishing with late game heroics. The Broncos found themselves down 14-0 early against Chowan, only to storm to a 24-14 lead. Then, the Broncos relinquished that lead to the Hawks, 28-24. That was just the first half. The second half featured the Broncos facing a seven point deficit well into the fourth quarter. In the span of a minute, ...
  4. CIAA Week 4 - Football is back on (Sort of)

The conference largely resumes play after being sidelines because of Hurricane Florence. Florence ravaged much of Southeast NC with flooding. Recovery efforts are just underway. I hope that everyone remains safe and strong given the amount of financial, emotional, and mental toll that the storm has brought onto people of the area. Fayetteville was among the communities turned into an island as the storm flooded all but one major thoroughfare going into the city. That last road might be flooded ...

  5. CIAA Week 1: The Out Of Conference Saga Begins

As I read the USA Today sports section, my eyes were drawn to the upcoming schedule. There is was. The header read: College Football. I looked to see when the schedule of upcoming games, the first game said: Bowie State vs Wagner, Thursday, 6pm. Yes! It is time. It is really time! The CIAA season starts off on Thursday with four games, including the aforementioned Bowie State game.

There’s one thing worth noticing in this year’s master schedule: the prevalence of FCS games. ...
