  1. Projecting the SR1 Playoff Field

The regular season has come to an end and we now eagerly await the announcement of the NCAA Division II Football Championship field. It will be announced today at 5:00PM, Eastern time. The SR1 bracket is pretty well set in the top five, led by three undefeated conference champions. The final two spots, however, offer up a lot of drama.

Here is what the top 5 should look like:

    1. California (10-0)
    2. LIU-Post (11-0)
    3. Shepherd (10-0)

  2. Championship Weekend in PSAC

Entering the final week of the season, we all eagerly anticipate huge conference championship games and, matchups with playoff implications as well as the unveiling of the championship field on Sunday evening. But for the vast majority of Division II teams, this Saturday brings the 2016 season to a close. The second round of regional rankings was released this past Monday and, as expected, there wasn’t much change from the previous week. The top seven teams won, leading to only a few minor changes in the bottom of the order and making it rather easy to predict the top 10. My rankings mirrored those released by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. In case you missed it last Sunday, below is how I recapped the weekend for the contenders and how I projected the rankings.

  5. Recapping the weekend for the SR1 playoff contenders

The first Division II regional rankings were released this past Monday. Saturday’s slate of SR1 action delivered no drama, as far as rankings are concerned. The top seven teams in the rankings won this past weekend and should remain in place for another week. The #8 team, Notre Dame College, lost to still-unbeaten #4 Fairmont State so they may not drop far, it at all. #9 Virginia Union suffered a fourth D2 loss and is now out of the running, as did Slippery Rock, who was not ranked last week. ...
