The top six is pretty simple and I agree with the rankings. Now let's play the games and crown a champ in SR1.
I come up with the same results. I think IUP will move up to third with the victory over Ship. Bloomsburg falls to fifth, even with the win yesterday.
I agree with your opinion on the rankings. The team in the toughest spot is IUP. They always seem to be on the fringe in this region. If they win, they are in and might host a game. But if they lose, what happens? We will get the opinion of the committee later today.

You're pretty much right. Everyone likes to have an opinion, but the polls are absolutely meaningless when it comes to who gets into the playoffs, which is the only thing that really matters.

The NCAA regional committees have their own methods for determining the rankings of teams in the regional rankings. Win-loss record (both against Division II opponents and in-region), head-to-head wins, strength of schedule (average opponents' winning percentage and average opponents' opponents' winning percentage) are the major criteria that determine the rankings. Polls, such as the AFCA poll and the D2Football.com top 25, are not taken into consideration.
How does Shippensburg get ranked #1 in the regional polls over 4 teams that are ranked higher than them in the D2 top 25 poll? Is there some magical formula determining this ranking? I know the strength of schedule comes into play, but 4 teams really!!
Enjoy the band and halftime show at Bowie. Quite the experience!
For some reason I've been late finding this entry. Excellent column with excellent detail. I've been on Bluefield State's campus. They're a good match for WV Tech.
Nice column. RIght on point with the real reasons for the break-up of the WVIAC.

Yeah, I looked and couldn't find it. It must've been something I remembered from a previous year (or I'm applying hoops logic, which could be a bad idea). Apparently, since WSSU got the #1 seed, I'm wrong. Won't be the last time.

I would like this more if you thought Shepherd was getting in. So it looks like it came down to taking points off the board vs WVW and going for the win.
Strangely enough, I'm not surprised. Disappointed, of course, but not surprised. The problem is in the strength of schedule numbers. I'll try to explain that in another blog post.

Even if Elizabeth City State loses to WSSU in the CIAA championship this week they should still be in, but we all no that won't happen. They would have lost to Delta State and WSSU twice, which is two teams in the top 10 in the nation. Too much bias in the rankings, almost as bad as the BCS!!!

How's the weather for this game look?

It will have an effect, certainly, on wins and losses: I'm not sure a three-loss Elizabeth City State team stays in the top six. But it won't change their strength of schedule: that is, they won't double-count each others' records when calculating OAWP since they've already played.
